This Friday, I went to visit the local TV station WBOC 16 with the NBS club. I actually had classes that afternoon but thanks to Dr. Cooper of giving me an afternoon-off so I can grab the chance! :)
We arrived at the station at 2:10pm. There was a man who is in charge of the station waiting for me in the front of the station. At the front desk, we could see an old TV displaying vintage shows in black and white. Though WBOC 16 does not look big from the outside as we can see every time we go to the mall, the studio was quite fancy. Covered by special materials that can create perfect surrounding vocal performance, the top of the studio was full of cameras, lights and microphones. Amazingly, those cameras and lights were all monitored by 3 person with the help of the computers. Only one lifting camera that needs to be manipulated manually. Apart from shooting, there are many things that needs to be done in person. For example, editting, interviewing, reporting, anchoring and taking care of visiting students.
One thing I was suprised and confused is that they choose not to put bab news (for example, the rape of the student and the home invasion robbery with guns) about Delmarva on TV due to audience making compliants that they do not want to see it (actually I think that is because they want to attract more people to visit Delmarva and Eastern Shore for holiday. Who will spend their holidays in a dangerous place?)
