Plastic bags were once widely used in China. When we went shopping at supermarkets and departments stores, shopping assistants often provided free plastic bags for our convenience. For a while, it seemed like that our life couldn't be without them.
However, plastic bags do bring serious damage to our environment. Costumers usually threw them away after use, and because they are thin and hard to decompose, these plastic products will exist for a long time. Once it is thrown,it will stay long time and pollute the environment .This is an immediate threat to our earth and water and it is even harmful to wildlife. Large numbers of sea animals are chocked by plastic bags every year.
Nowadays, the Chinese government has passed relevant regulations for limiting the use of disposable plastic bags: they are not free any more. You need to pay for them even when you are shopping in supermarkets. As a result, people are changing their behaviors: paper and clothing bags come back to our daily life and become more and more popular. It is true that by limiting its usage, China has reduced the use of plastic bags a lot.
When I came to America, usually, I will go to Walmart once a week. And I was really shocked by the way of American people using plastic bags. It is really immoderately. Every time I will get a lot of plastic bags from Walmart. And not only Walmart, but also many other supermakets and groceries all provide free plastic bags.
I hope that American government will do something to stop this phenomenon. Because the "White pollution" is really harmful to the global envirnment. And a good global envirnment needs not only China but every countries efforts.
